ASUS P5K-VM Installation Guide:

1. Mounted Motherboard in case, removed PSU to put DVD drive in top slot and placed SATA HD on bottom HD shelf, secured all with included screws
2. CPU, Fan installation, purchased boxed version of C2D E4600 because it came with an Intel fan and has a three year warrenty vs. one year for the tray version that comes without a fan
3. Memory installation, put 2Gb stick in Channel A, DIMM A
4. ASUS Q-Connector setup: Front USB ports (USB1112), Front Panel Audio Connection (HD Audio), System Panel Connections (System Power, HD Activity Light, Internal Speaker, Power & Reset buttons)
5. Installed ASUS WL-138G V2 WLAN PCI card
6. Installed XFX geForce 8600 GPU in PCI-E slot
6. Connected CPU fan power cable
7. Connected DVD IDE cable and power
8. Connected SATA II power pass through and data cable to SATA 1 port on mobo
9. Connected ATX12V & EATXPWR cable
10. Connected K/V/M, system power

After connecting the leg bone to the hip bone the machine booted up and returned a reassurancing single “beep” to inform me that it is (should) be working and that I can start installing my operating systems.

P5K-VM Design Notes:

-Northbridge is far enough from CPU area to all easy access to CPU Fan space
-IDE connection placement is a bit low at the bottom of mobo, difficult to cable IDE Master/Slave without a tense IDE cable
-Memory slots are color coded for dual-channel RAM placement location

Does sleep work? I run a P5K-VM too and it doesn’t wake up… :(

So far I have only been able to get the sleep function to work in Vista and XP. With OS X I just turned off the sleep function until a further fix is thought up. The non functional sleep in OS X is common issue with this motherboard so hopefully a solution will come soon.

Thanks!!
